The history of Marais Viljoen High School

When the school opened its doors, mr Piet Myburgh was the first principal. His appointment was from 1 January 1961.

From the first day, the school was and still is a dubble medium school, i.e. Afrikaans and English are taught side by side, which makes Marais Viljoen High School in effect two schools in one.

On 1 April 1968 the schools governance was transferred from National Education to to the Transvaal Education Department.

The commercial section of the school was phased out at the end of 1978 with the final standard 10 class consisting of 34 matrics.

During mr le Roux's reign as principal the school expanded its fields of study and at the general parent's meeting in 1995, it was decided that Hoër Tegniese Skool Marais Viljoen Technical High School would in future be known as Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School.

Mr. le Roux retired at the end of March 2004 and mrs. Martie Heystek was appointed as acting principal. On 1 January 2005 she was officially appointed as the fourth and first female principal of Marais Viljoen.

Mev. Heystek het ook (soos die vorige twee hoofde), haar onderwysloopbaan in 1980 as fisiese wetenskap onderwyseres by Marais Viljoen begin.
